GET THESE RIGHT FIRST

  • Make heat and UVB overlap at the basking area.
  • Measure both surface and air temperatures at dragon level.
  • Run the complete setup for several day/night cycles before arrival.

Simple care log

A notebook records feeding, waste, shedding, weight, bulb changes, and concerns.

Common things to skip

  • “Complete” kits: Many contain an enclosure or lighting component you will immediately outgrow or replace.
  • Red or blue night bulbs: Darkness is appropriate at night; use non-light-emitting heat only if temperatures require it.
  • Heat rocks: They do not create the natural overhead heat and gradient a dragon needs.
  • Reptile carpet: It can be difficult to sanitize thoroughly and may catch claws.
  • Decorative gauges: Appearance is irrelevant if the tool cannot give useful, accurate readings.
